Accommodation Confirmation Email
(21 March 2023)
Text
Hello [redacted],
You are receiving this email because you have submitted and have been approved for housing accommodation(s) for the 2023-2024 academic year. Please note that this year the process for accommodated housing offers will be changing slightly. It is your responsibility to read this email carefully and in full so you understand the process moving forward.
After reviewing your accommodation request and medical documentation, the Disability Accommodations Committee for Housing has determined the following:
Accommodation requests that are approved: Main campus (not CR/Mods/567)
Accommodation requests that are not approved*: Not Applicable
*This either means the accommodation is not possible/reasonable on the Brandeis Campus or there was not sufficient information in your documentation to support the request. you can reply to this email and set up a meeting if you would like to discuss the reasons a request was not approved and what the possible next steps would be.
If you did not receive a housing selection number, it means you did not complete the housing application for Fall 2023-Spring 2024 in your MyHousing Portal and cannot participate in the accommodated process; you will need to fill out a waiting list application in the MyHousing Portal. You do not need to request accommodations again, those will carry over to the waiting list.
New Housing Offer Process:
Students who received a housing selection number and completed a housing application request will receive an email on Thursday, March 30th, which will include 2 housing options that meet the student's approved accommodations and will take into consideration their class year and housing selection number. Students will then have until 12:00pm (noon) on Tuesday, April 4th to submit their preference form. Within the preference form, students will rank all their housing options and include the name of their one pull-in (if applicable). Please note that if you are able to pull in a friend, your friend would not have to complete any further steps in the selection process, Community Living would assign them to the space. Students at this point may also indicate their wish to remove themselves from the accommodations process and continue into the fill housing selection process.
If your sole accommodation is a furniture approval or an Emotional Support Animal, you will go through the traditional housing selection process with your class year, not through the Housing Accommodation Selection Process.
As was the case in previous years, students who remove themselves from the accommodations process and move into the full housing selection withdraw their accommodation request and are no longer approved for disability accommodations for the 2023-2024 housing selection. Students who choose to participate in the full housing selection process may or may not get housing that meets their previously approved accommodations and will not be able to request a housing assignment unless their medical situation changes and results in new accommodation needs.
Students will receive an email notification by the end of the day on Friday, April 7 informing them that their housing assignment has been added to their MyHousing Portal. Students should note that they are not guaranteed their first choice as many students will be given the same options that meet their approved accommodations and Community Living cannot guarantee students receiving their first preference.
Additional Support will be provided to students this week in replacement of individual meetings. Staff will be monitoring the housingaccommodation@brandeis.edu inbox every day and students can schedule times to meet with Community Living and Student Accessibility Services staff on Thursday, March 23rd or Friday, March 24th using this link.
Community Living hopes that by moving towards this method, students will be able to take a longer period of time to process their options and reach out for support or seek answers to additional questions that they may have. We look forward to helping you find your housing assignment for the 2023-2024 academic year.
Best,
The Disability Accommodations Committee for Housing
